Terry Talley as me sings “It’s Only a Show,” watched by “stagehand” Barry Greenberg and “critic” Bambi Everson in my 24 Inches, Theater for the New City, NYC, 1982. “When you’re putting on a play, You cannot keep the crowds away, As long as they don’t have to pay. They want free tickets. Savants in fancy restaurants Wonder what the public wants. I could savvy those savants. It wants free tickets. Politicos who swear in court That theatre deserves support Are by coincidence the sort Who’ll walk through pickets To get free tickets.”
