<<<Back to Josef Bush and Bill Haislip’s 1970 Scandal On to Hope Stansbury in Milligan Movies and Elsewhere>>>
Nothing is more ironic than that Caffe Cino actors (who participated in so many profound plays pleading for love and beauty) should be best-known for acting in the grungy, gory, gruesome cult-films of schlockmaster ANDY MILLIGAN.

HERE TO START WITH, ARE NINE CAPTURES FROM A FILM CALLED “COMPASS ROSE,” WRITTEN BY CINO WRITER JOSEF BUSH, PARTS OF WHICH WERE SHOT IN THE CINO.

The Cino is called “Cafe Fuehrer” and is run by a white German version of Ellen Stewart. (Instead of Ellen’s “Cafe La Mama E.T.C. Experimental Theatre Club,” she says, “Cafe Fuerher F.A.G., For Avant Garde.”), who at one point has a raging fight with a playwright clearly based on HARRY KOUTOUKAS after a performance of his play about movie actress Linda Darnell in Hell.

-
Parody of a Cino play takes place on the set of LANFORD WILSON’s “This Is the Rill Speaking.”
-
-
HAAL BORSKE (right) in the parody of a Cino play.
-
-
?, VICTOR LIPARI, and MATT BAYLOR in the parody Cino play.
-
-
Possibly ME, ANTHONY MOSCINI, ?, and HAAL BORSKE in a parody of a Cino play.
-
-
Scenes in a drug-crazed blond woman’s apartment look as if they were also shot in a much-disguised Cino, judging from the familiar photos and posters papering her walls.
-
-
DEAN SELMIER (?) and ????
-
-
HAAL BORSKE appears as the assistant to a corrupt doctor who gives blood transfusions to an aging movie actress.
-
-
MATT BAYLOR as a corrupt doctor assisted by KENNY BURGESS (in a black fright-wig)

In “Seeds,” MAGGIE ROGERS (star of “The Maids” at the Cino) is a demented matriarch. ANTHONY MOSCINI (“Still-Love”) is caught at incestuous adultery. PATTI DILLON (“Pretty People”), the first actress I saw at the Cino, has Joan Crawford eyes, while LUCY SILVAY (“Moon,” “The Madness of Lady Bright”) has Bette Davis ones. Amidst dramatic photography and chaotic dramaturgy, Patti plays a scheming maid or nurse or something, Lucy is a young wife murdered while brushing her teeth.
-
-
MAGIE DOMINIC (Snow White,”The Warhol Machine”) undergoes a forcible abortion. NEIL FLANAGAN (star and director of dozens of Cino plays) is a pedophile priest ogling a former conquest at dinner. JOHN BORSKE (“Thanksgiving Horror Show,” “Vultures Over Miami,”) wrote “Seeds” for Andy Milligan. John says the Christian producers cut all Neil’s pedophilic scenes and made Patti (John’s wife) the star, but destroyed continuity [NOTE: I can vouch for that!] by adding acres and acres of soft-core sex scenes with one actress (whose face isn’t seen) body-doubling for several uninformed actresses!

In “Vapors,” written by HOPE STANSBURY (Cino actress in “Henry-Henrietta,” and “The Run to the Sea”), BOB DAHDAH (director and star of innumerable Cino plays) and GERALD JACUZZO (“Deathwatch”) tentatively relate in a room at a bathhouse. LARRY RAE (frequent after-hours dancer at the Cino) and HAAL BORSKE (“Henry-Henrietta,” “Wonder Woman,” “The Warhol Machine,” writer/star of “The Brown Crown”) are screaming queens cruising the hallways.
-
-
More “Vapors”: JOEL THURM (“A Field of Poppies”) is the cool desk clerk, MATT BAYLOR (“The Civil War”) swore to me that this fleshly finale was he, but it is apparently actually Ron Keith. Matt is listed in the cast of “Vapors” on IMDB as “Man,” but I haven’t yet located him in the film. SEE a clip from the movie HERE.

NEIL FLANAGAN was GURU THE MAD MONK who killed people at Mass so he could sell their bodies
-

Neil Flanagan’s wife JACQUIE FLANAGAN was his partner Olga, who drank their blood.
-
-
Pretty JULIA WILLIS was one of Olga’s victims.
-
-
IRVING METZMAN got his eyes gouged out.
-
-
JOSEPH PICHETTE’s one shot in the movie was giving a disapproving glance at Irving’s torture.
-
-
WILLIAM M. HOFFMAN and BOBBY KUBERA were hooded henchman except for a shot where one of them’s (I can’t tell which) hood fell off.
